Falkirk teenager, Caitlyn Christie, at aged just 15 is our youngest-ever fundraiser. Caitlyn has set herself the challenge of running 24 miles in 24 hours around her home town of Falkirk over the second weekend of April, supported on her runs by family and friends. Although Caitlyn is pretty well equipped to take on the challenge, being a competitive runner at Falkirk Victoria harriers, racing distances from 800m to 5k and cross country, it will still be a real test of stamina and fitness.
Caitlyn attends St Mungo’s high school Falkirk. Caitlyn said: “Seeing the numbers of lives that have been shattered due to the Coronavirus, and seeing the mental health of so many young people affected, I knew I wanted to do something to help. Sporting Minds UK is a charity that not only helps young people, but helps young people like me who are so passionate about sport. I am taking part in my fundraising challenge for Sporting Minds UK over the second weekend in April, aiming to raise at least £200 – wish me luck!”
Callum our Founder, said “What Caitlyn is doing for us is just fantastic and very much welcomed – her fundraising will go a long way to help us to help others. The pandemic has had a huge impact on sport and sports participants in general, plus we’ve had all the uncertainly around the 2021 Olympics. It’s a fact that those with existing mental health conditions are struggling more than usual, while many who have never experienced mental health issues before are experiencing anxieties for the first time. We know this from the increased calls for support that we have received from young sportspeople month on month. In our first year we have supported 500 young athletes, and Caitlyn’s fundraising will go a long way to help us to help others.”
