Alex Bomberg’s 24 hour Daytona Motorsport challenge

Alex Bomberg has very clear ambition in life – to work in Motorsport, and ultimately, to become an F1 driver.  Alex is certainly going the right way about achieving his ambitions with his commitment to and recent successes in British DMAX GT kart racing.   And now this determined 17 year old, with the back up of his racing support team, is about to embark on an amazing 24 hour kart racing challenge at the Daytona Milton Keynes track, to raise funds for Sporting Minds UK.

Alex said “I’m really excited about the 24 hour race and having this great opportunity to raise funds for Sporting Minds UK.  Due to Covid-19, like many other things, Karting and  Racing stopped throughout lockdown, but I kept myself sharp on my simulator at home, where I practice different tracks and setups of the kart to sharpen my skills. I feel that more now than ever, mental health needs to be addressed at every available opportunity.  Sporting Minds UK is there to support young sportspeople just like me, and so it’s great to be able to give something back in my fundraising for them.  I’d also like to thank our sponsors MyPremier Security, Santander and Ultimate Finance.”

Daytona Motorsport runs The Daytona 24 hours, day and night event, the foremost team endurance kart racing event of the year, usually each May at Daytona Milton Keynes.  Covid-19 has delayed the event, but now with all appropriate arrangements in place, Alex and his co drivers Patrick Kelly,  and George Kenning, with Dad Daniel Bomberg as Team Principle, are honing their race strategy and tactics for their entry into the DMAX GT kart race.  It takes place over the weekend of 17th and 18th October.

Alex, a sixth form pupil at Newcastle Under Lyme School, Staffordshire, is already carving out a successful reputation on the track.  Starting karting at the age of just seven, and having gained experience at his home track of Fastlane Karting at Fenton, Stoke on Trent, and Daytona Manchester, Alex has more recently been competing in the Daytona Tamworth’s DMAX GT Inkart Championship.  Alex  finished an impressive 4th out of 49 over this years race season, his best overall result to date and just missing a podium position.

Callum our Founder said “What  Alex and his team are doing for us is an incredibly tough challenge, both mentally and physically, so the more support Alex has will be fantastic.  Alex’s fundraising will contribute to our First Anniversary Fundraising Campaign, where we are aiming to raise £10,000 by our first Anniversary, which is on 26th November 2020, to enable us to continue supporting young athletes.  It’s a fact that those with existing mental health conditions are struggling more than usual, while many who have never experienced mental health issues before are experiencing anxieties for the first time.  We know this from the continuing high number of requests for support that we’re receiving – but that’s exactly what we’re here for.”
